An Ancient Bhagavathy Temple
The temple stands on the border of Thrissur and Palakkad districts, in the Varavoor and Thirumittacode panchayaths. There is no record of its exact history or antiquity.
During the Devaprasnam held before the renovation and the Naveekarana Kalasam of 16–26 May 2010, it was revealed that the temple’s prathishta was performed by a very powerful Rishi.
This Devi temple is the abode of Shakthi Upasana. Devotees from far and wide, especially the eight desams, come to seek the blessings of Viruttanathamma for prosperity in their spiritual and material lives.

One Peedom, Two Deities
One of the peculiarities of the temple is that the prathishta of Dwarikanasini Devi and Veerabhadraswami is in one peedom in the Sreekovil. The temple is famous for its special pooja rituals.
It is also one of the rare temples in the area where a ten-day Utsavam of special tantric importance is held. The Kodikayattam is on Rohini nakshathram of Kumbham, and the Aarattu is on Atham day, in late February or March.
The Upadevathas
Along with the presiding deities, the temple has six upadevathas.

Tantric Tradition
The tantric right of the temple belongs to the famous Kallur Mana in Thripunithura. Brahmasree Sreekumaran Namboodiripad presently performs the tantric rituals.
The Tantri and the Mootha Adigal guide and decide all matters concerning the daily pooja. Every year the Tantri conducts the shudhi before the Utsavam and gives direction for the temple’s festivals.
